Add VAT to a net price, or strip VAT out of a gross price — at Cyprus's 19% standard rate or the 9% and 5% reduced rates.
You have a price before VAT and want the total.
Standard rate is 19%. 9% and 5% are reduced rates for specific goods and services.
| Net (excl. VAT) | €100.00 |
| VAT | €19.00 |
| Gross (incl. VAT) | €119.00 |
| Rate | Applies to (examples) |
|---|---|
| 19% | Standard rate — most goods and services |
| 9% | Reduced — hotels, restaurants, catering, domestic passenger transport |
| 5% | Reduced — foodstuffs, medicines, books, some first-home supplies |
| 0% | Zero-rated — exports, some international services |
These categories are examples only — the exact rate for a specific product or service is set by law and can change. Some supplies are exempt (for example certain financial, medical and rental services), which is not the same as zero-rated.
To add VAT, multiply the net amount by (1 + rate). At 19% that's net × 1.19. To remove VAT from a gross amount, divide by the same factor: net = gross ÷ 1.19, and the VAT is the difference. This calculator does both directions for any rate you pick.
A business must register for Cyprus VAT once taxable turnover passes the registration threshold (currently €15,600 in a 12-month period), and in some cross-border cases from the first euro. If you're self-employed, see the self-employed tax guide for how VAT fits alongside income tax and contributions.
